One of the highlights of my job is that I get to work with children. However, I think I’m particularly lucky because I get to photograph a lot of children who reside in East San Diego County. You know …. horse country! One of my very first children’s portrait sessions ever was of a little cowgirl wearing chaps on a ranch. And now, nearly a decade a later, I’m still photographing little cowgirls. Here’s Grace:

If you’ve known me for some time, then you probably know that I have a love for all things Jack Sparrow. As my mom once said, “The only thing better than Johnny Depp is Johnny Depp as a pirate.” And I couldn’t agree more!

So a couple of years ago, my sister visited Walt Disneyworld and she bought me this gorgeous red and gold velvet pillow, complete with a satin picture of Jack Sparrow on the front. It was hilarious and perfect! Well, my little darling Tyler (yes, Tyler is a girl … she’s Jordyn’s twin sister) has become completely OBSESSED with Jack Sparrow. She’s so obsessed that her “security blanket” of choice is my satin Jack pillow. She calls him “Jackie” and when he’s on TV, she screams with delight. She even calls Willie Wonka and the Mad Hatter “Jackie.” This summer, when she was deathly afraid of her swimming lessons and wanted to be taken out of the pool, she first called for mommy, then daddy, then howled, “Jackie! Jaaaackie! Jaaaaaaaaaaaaackie!” for 30 minutes, as if he was going to rescue her right then and there! Seriously. It’s on video. I can’t make this stuff up!

So was I surprised when Tyler said she wanted to be Jackie for Halloween? Not in the slightest. In fact, I would have been more surprised had she NOT asked to be Jackie for Halloween. And no, I wasn’t surprised when she asked to sleep in her costume, either. I didn’t let her, but man she loves that thing! She was the hit of Halloween. The whole neighborhood got quite a kick out of this 30-pound pirate … complete with the attitude and everything.

For probably at least 3 years in a row, I tried to get Devyn to be Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz for Halloween. I thought it would be an easy sell because the Wizard of Oz is one of her most favorite movies, but everytime Halloween rolled around, she selected something else. I was soooo excited this year when Jordyn told ME that she wanted to be Dorothy! Little did I know that one month later, when it came time for her to actually put her costume on, Jordyn would be petrified of every stuffed dog resembling Toto that I put in her basket. I finally got her to pose for some portraits with a Pucci Pup, but a little pug Webkinz of Devyn’s actually made the rounds trick-or-treating with us. Here is my sweet little Dorothy Gale:

My little Jasmine was just too cute posing for her Halloween portraits! This is actually the first year she’s gone as a princess. So far she’s been: a poodle, Piglet, a clown, Tinkerbell, Little Bo Peep, a ’50s girl, and a bumblebee. She loves Halloween!

I keep trying to get her to pull out that front tooth that’s driving me insane, but she won’t have anything to do with that!
